A supportive process tailored just for you.
Counseling is deeply personal—so it requires an approach that is tailored to each individual, instead of standardized treatment plans. After an intake process designed to provide us with knowledge about you and your situation, your counselor will work closely with you, moving forward at your pace.
Our Approach
Our counseling approach includes several different steps you can expect to work through as part of your treatment.
(Note that some might take one or two sessions, while others could require more. And multiple steps might be included in the same session. It is all dependent on the individual client and their needs.)
This is about more than us gaining an understanding of your concerns—it’s also an opportunity for you to get a feel for your counselor and their approach. We want to make sure this is a good fit on both sides.
What You Can Expect
A Safe, Supportive Space
One of the biggest benefits of counseling is that it provides you with the ability to speak freely about whatever you wish, without fear of judgment or rejection. Often it can be hard to discuss struggles with friends or loved ones; many people avoid these kinds of discussions for fear of “burdening” someone else with their troubles. With a professional counselor, there is no need to worry—we are here to listen, and to help.

Confidentiality
In general, our discussions are strictly confidential. The only exceptions are when we are required by law to disclose information we have learned—for example, the abuse of a child or another vulnerable person, and threats to your own safety or that of others. We also can be required by a court to release records. These instances are rare, however.
(Special rules apply to minors under the age of 13; please see the Who We Work With page for more detail.)
Transparency
We will always work to serve your best interests, and ensure you understand every step of the process. If you have questions, we will answer them to the best of our ability. And we will never recommend that your treatment continue longer than is necessary—our goal is to help you move forward, not for you to remain in counseling indefinitely.
